ZeroAvia, which recently completed the first flight of a hydrogen-electric twin-engine aircraft, is preparing for a new step.

The technology startup has entered into an agreement with American airline Alaska Airlines to convert a regional Bombardier Q400 turboprop to the new propulsion model.

In addition to the aircraft, ZeroAvia also introduced its new ground test bench, the HyperTruck. The 15-ton truck will be used to evaluate the company’s new engines, like the ones that will power the electric Q400.

In ZeroAvia’s technology, the electric motors are powered by electricity generated from the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. As with other vehicles equipped with fuel cells, the aircraft will only emit water vapor.
