You see, wood is probably the most common material when it comes to tables. But it’s also surprisingly high-maintenance.

Let dust accumulate and the wooden table can get scratched! Place it too close to a stove and it can warp! Leave a glass of cold water on it and you might end up staring at water marks for eternity!

Here’s everything you need to know about cleaning and protecting your wooden table.

How to clean and protect your wooden dining table

What you’ll need:

  • 2 microfiber cleaning cloths
  • Liquid soap
  • A small bowl

Instructions:

Clean the table: Use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to remove any dust, crumbs, and dirt that may have accumulated.

If there are sticky stains, add one or two drops of soap to a bowl of warm water. Dip the damp microfiber cloth into the soapy water and gently scrub the affected area. Do a test on a small, hidden section of the table – just to make sure the finish can withstand even the mildest soap.

Dry the table: You don’t want your wooden table to stay wet (never), so use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to dry and polish the table.

Notes:

If sticky spots persist, you can also try using alcohol. Here, you’ll definitely want to test a small, inconspicuous spot. And make sure the room/your workspace is well-ventilated. Add a bit of alcohol to a clean cloth and rub the sticky area. If the table simply doesn’t seem to get clean or less sticky, you may want to consult an expert (or watch some YouTube videos) on refinishing the table.
