Researchers at the University of Sydney (Australia) have developed a method to transform the durian fruit, known as the world’s smelliest fruit, into a battery charger.

In the study published in the scientific journal “Journal of Energy Storage,” the fruit’s biomass was converted into supercapacitors that can be used for energy storage.
To do this, the scientists used a non-toxic method where the fruit biomass was boiled in water and dehydrated through the freeze-drying process to become carbon aerogel.

The same result was also achieved using jackfruit. According to the study’s authors, the material showed better performance and lower cost compared to the graphene-based technology currently in use in the market.
