“Stuck on the train, the carriages are full of smoke, the doors won’t open! If it weren’t for the workers on the platform, we wouldn’t have gotten out,” one person wrote on Instagram.
The British Transport Police said the incident was due to a train defect and stated that there were no injuries.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “BTP received a report of a defective train at Clapham Common station just before 6 pm this evening, and we are aware of a video showing passengers trying to leave the train. It is believed that the issue was caused by brake dust, which can often be mistaken for smoke. There were no reports of injuries and the incident has now been resolved.”
